About Us

Our Mission

“Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery it is. In the boredom and pain of it, no less than in the excitement and gladness: touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it, because in the last analysis all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace.” —Frederick Buechner

At Karis Counseling Services, our mission statement is “Transforming hearts by a gracious hope.” That mission is to bring hope in the struggle - whether this be the internal struggle of depression and self-doubt that rages inside many of us, or the relational struggles that often divide marriages and families, or even larger structural issues that make living with the necessities of life difficult. We seek to bring hope and healing to all of these realities. And through this hope, help our clients live their lives through lenses of beauty and grace—thus becoming more fully human.

Our Services

“God is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18

“For when we are harassed by poverty, saddened by bereavement, ill, and in pain…let good people visit us—people who can not only rejoice with those that rejoice, but weep with those that weep, and who know how to give useful advice and how to win us to express our own feelings in conversation.” —Augustine of Hippo

“We were promised sufferings. They were part of the program. We were even told, ‘Blessed are they that mourn,’ and I accept it. I’ve got nothing that I hadn’t bargained for. Of course it is different when the thing happens to oneself, not to others, and in reality, not imagination.” ― C.S. Lewis, A Grief Observed

What We Offer

With a desire to walk with people who are hurting, Karis Counseling Services seeks to help the brokenhearted and those who are crushed in spirit to know that they are not alone. We provide a full range of Biblically-based individual, marriage and family counseling services to adults and adolescents in areas including: Depression, Abuse, Attachment Issues, Career Counseling, Marriage Issues, Addictions, Divorce, Anger and Rage, Eating Disorders, Fear and Anxiety, Gender Issues, Grief and Loss, Sexuality, Spiritual Issues, support groups, and other emotional and relational issues.

Karis Counseling Services seeks to connect individuals and families with a deeper understanding and experience of God’s grace and hope. Our hope flows from trusting in God’s grace, waiting on God’s work, knowing God’s truth, working as a team, and reconnecting with God’s family.

Connecting means listening and loving people of all ages who are created in God’s image, yet who are broken by sin and a sinful world. Connecting also means welcoming people with various struggles who desire to grow and to become what God has intended for them in Christ.

By God’s grace, these helping relationships will heal individuals, according to God’s truth and in the context of God’s family. All of this is possible by the supernatural work of God’s spirit in our lives together.

Our Approach

"The destiny of the world is determined less by the battles that are lost and won than by the stories that it loves and believes in." —Harold Goddard

"What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like." —Saint Augustine

It is in the context of the therapeutic relationship that the client’s story is explored, the roots and consequences of problems uncovered, and restoration takes place. In the exploration of our client's stories, beautiful and painful places are discovered, celebrated, and grieved; wholeness and integration becomes possible, and individuals begin to find their story woven into a grand Story of hope and redemption. At Karis Counseling we seek to provide a place where clients can know that they are not alone as they engage their stories.

The process of counseling can take many different forms and a variety of theories and techniques may be employed. Though we have been trained and influenced by various writers and thinkers, both inside and outside the Christian tradition, we are primarily and ultimately guided by the wisdom and truth found in the Christian Scriptures.
